July 2024
Prior to the event, informational posters were spread on social media. Notably, this flyer was posted on the Windsor & Essex County Events page of windsorDOTca News. In addition, these were also printed and posted around the Downtown Windsor area.
This outreach event was in collaboration with the Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative, who hosts regular barbeques at a local park. Through the School Health Grant for Youth, an assortment of fruits and vegetables were provided alongside the barbeque as an example of eating a balanced meal. This picture shows some of the participants of this event lining up to get their food. The turnout of the entire event was around 200 people.
The second part of this event, an educational session for the kids, followed shortly after serving the meal. This presentation focused on learning the fundamental aspects of a healthy lifestyle (including diet, sleep, exercise, stress management). Over 20 kids participated in this portion of the event.
The presentation was centered around the "Healthy Living Song," which concisely summarized all the essential components of a healthy lifestyle. Please see the videos below to watch some clips of this!
During the presentation, a special emphasis was put towards teaching the kids about a healthy diet. They learned about the diet recommendations of Canada's Food Guide and implementing them into their daily diet. Please see the videos below to watch some clips of this!
There was eager participation in all of the children, and they were rewarded at the end with an assortment of prizes. Everyone received a couple of healthy snacks, and they also won either a t-shirt or an informational magnet about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Thank you again to the Public Health Agency of Canada for providing this grant to make this event possible!
This is a short clip of the Healthy Living Song taught in this presentation. The kids picked up on the song quickly and we enjoyed singing it together!
In this part of the presentation, I was finishing up talking about the fruits and vegetables section of Canada's Food Guide plate. All the kids were very eager and enthusiastic about answering the questions throughout the presentation.
